Alabama A&M’s Dawn Thornton Named to 2026 Achieving Coaching Excellence Women’s College Basketball Honor Roll

LEXINGTON, Ky. | Head Coach Dawn Thornton, has been named to the 2026 Achieving Coaching Excellence Women's College Basketball Honor Roll, recognizing outstanding leadership, program development, and impact on and off the court.


The Achieving Coaching Excellence Honor Roll celebrates coaches who demonstrate exceptional leadership, integrity, and a lasting impact on their programs and student-athletes. Thornton's recognition further solidifies her reputation as one of the rising leaders in women's college basketball.


Thornton's inclusion on the national honor roll highlights her continued commitment to building a competitive and culture-driven program at Alabama A&M while fostering academic success and personal growth among her student-athletes.


"I'm honored to be named to the  Achieving Coaching Excellence Women's College Basketball Honor Roll," said Thornton. "This recognition reflects the culture we've built throughout the season, the remarkable young women I've had the privilege to coach, and the meaningful impact we've worked to make through the game every day."


Under Thornton's leadership, the Bulldogs have continued to make strides within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), one being regular season champions. She has also emphasized discipline, resilience, and a team-first mentality. Her approach has not only elevated the program's on-court performance but also strengthened its presence within the conference and beyond.
