Alabama A&M Ends Road Swing with loss to Rattlers

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Alabama A&M University men's basketball team dropped its final regular season road game of the season, 76-58, to Florida A&M in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Monday night at the Al Lawson Center.
 
Alabama A&M (8-20 overall, 7-8 SWAC) trailed from start to finish as Florida A&M (6-20, 4-11) has now won two straight.
 
Omari Peek and AC Bryant paced the Bulldogs with nine points each. EJ Williams added eight points.
 
Keith Lamar poured in a game-high 29 points, on 11-of-14 shooting, with six 3-pointers. Shannon Grant added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Jordan Chatman chipped in 10 points and seven boards.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Florida A&M raced out to a 9-2 advantage after a Hantez Louis-Jeune layup with 17:17 remaining in the opening half
  • AAMU cut the deficit to 9-6 after an EJ Williams bucket, but FAMU responded by pushing the margin to 16-10 after two free throws by Matthew Webster with just under 14 minutes left
  • The Bulldogs tied the game at 18 after back-to-back baskets by Jayland Randall with 8:57 remaining
  • However, Florida A&M used an 8-3 run, capped by a Lamar jumper, to take a 26-21 advantage with 6:56 left
  • Back came Alabama A&M, closing the gap to 26-25 after a layup by AC Bryant with 5:46 remaining
  • FAMU pushed the margin to 35-29 with 2:24 remaining, but Cameron Tucker scored on back-to-back layups as AAMU trimmed the deficit to 35-33 with 1:29 left
  • A Lamar bucket with 15 seconds remaining sent the Rattlers into the break with a 37-33 advantage
  • The Rattlers got a pull-up jumper by Louis-Jeune with 17:27 left as FAMU pushed the lead to 43-35
  • Florida A&M stretched its lead, on the heels of a small 6-0 run, to 54-42 with just under 11 minutes to play
  • The Bulldogs cut the deficit to 54-48 with exactly nine minutes to play, but the Rattlers extended their lead to 62-50 after a Jalen Speer jumper with 4:49 remaining
  • Alabama A&M could not recover as Florida A&M pulled away to split the season series
 
GAME NOTES
  • Alabama A&M shot 44.7 percent (21-of-47) and 66.7 percent (14-of-21) from the free-throw line
  • The Bulldogs grabbed 29 rebounds, with 20 on the defensive glass
  • Omari Peek and AC Bryant paced the Bulldogs with nine points each

  • The Bulldogs finished with 32 bench points, 26 points in the paint, 15 points off 20 FAMU turnovers, 10 fastbreak points and five second-chance points

  • The Rattlers, who went 7-of-12 from behind the 3-point line, grabbed 29 boards, with eight coming from the offensive glass
  • Keith Lamar poured in a game-high 29 points, with six 3-pointers

  • Jordan Chatman chipped in 10 points and seven boards
  • The Rattlers finished with 32 points off 23 AAMU turnovers, 30 points in the paint, 23 fastbreak points, 19 bench points and four second-chance points
