BATON ROUGE, La. | Alabama A&M University senior
Brandon McLaren broke a 36-year-old Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championship record in the decathlon on Friday in shattering the previous mark by more than 150 points at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
McLaren, who finished inside the top three in nearly every event in the decathlon, held off Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Che Rochford to win the event with 6,937 points. His mark broke the previous conference record of Wesley Francis (6,776 points), of Grambling State, in 1988. In addition, he also set a personal and school record, breaking Nathan Stephens mark of 6,321 points set in 2010.
Bruce Davis also set a personal and school record on Friday, breaking his own mark in the shot put. After his second attempt, Davis broke his previous mark of 15.63m, which he set at the Tennessee Invite, with a toss of 16.13m as he finished second. Davieon Center, of Jackson State, surpassed Davis on the fifth attempt, which a mark of 16.79m.

WOMEN'S TRACK EVENTS
- Ana-Liese Torian won the 100m hurdles prelims, qualifying in 13.45
- In the 3000m steeplechase, Sanyae Gibson finished second and just missed the top spot, logging a time of 11:45.26
WOMEN'S FIELD EVENTS
- In the heptathlon, Ajanae Cressey landed on the podium with a third-place finish, logging 4,468 points
- Cressey placed sixth in the high jump with a season-best jump of 1.60m
