NASHVILLE, Tenn. | Alabama A&M University women's soccer (0-2-0) sophomore Liliana Ribeiro logged 15 saves in Sunday afternoon's 3-0 road loss against Lipscomb.
The Bisons (1-0-1) got off to a fast start, scoring in the fourth and 13th minutes. Senior Jasmine Perez-Acosta would take her shot a little over a minute later but would be saved by Lipscomb keeper, Kaina Cesar. The Bison would find the back of the net once more to give themselves a comfortable lead going into the break.
The Bulldogs would get seven more looks in the second half, led by the efforts of Perez-Acosta, but would not be able to convert. Alabama A&M would continue their defensive efforts, keeping the Bison to only half of the shots they took in the first half, and allowing no goals.
Ribeiro would save 60% of shots taken in the first half, and 50% of the overall match.
AAMU head coach Prince Borde is proud of the second-half effort of the team. "Another gritty performance against another conference champion" he said. "We played a great second half. We had some chances to score in the second half. We will grow from stretch to stretch- with the goal of competing for a SWAC championship."
The Bulldogs continue their road swing on Thursday, August 22, in DeLand, Florida, as they take on the Stetson Hatters at 6 p.m. CT.
