THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University football team will be looking for its first road win of the season as the Bulldogs visit Austin Peay for the first time ever on Saturday night inside Fontera Stadium. Kickoff against the Governors is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Â
Alabama A&M (2-1) has won back-to-back games for the first time since late September as the Bulldogs held off Georgetown College, 24-16, last Saturday. AAMU played three quarterbacks in the win over the Tigers as
Aveon Smith came off the bench to provide the spark. The junior quarterback was 10-of-15 passing for 110 yards, passing for one touchdown and rushing for another. Defensively,
Cortez Andrews led the way with 12 total tackles, including 2.5 sacks and one pass breakup.
Â
Austin Peay (0-3) is seeking its first win after falling 45-17 to then-No. 7 Central Arkansas last Saturday. The Governors amassed 332 total yards in a balance offense (186 passing, 146 rushing) against the Bears. Austin Smith went 15-of-26 passing for 159 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Jaden Lyles paced the Govs defense with 11 total tackles, with six being solo stops.

Alabama A&M head coach
Connell Maynor said the team will need to execute, be disciplined and make better decisions heading into this week's game.
Â
"I knew they (Georgetown) were a good program," Maynor said. "They've won NAIA national championships, ranked last year and No. 3 ranked team this year. So, we knew they were a good football team that was going to be discipline and play us hard. If we would have executed better, made better decisions with the ball, I thought we could have scored more points.
Â
"This will be a really good test for us in all three phases, offense, defense and special teams. Austin Peay does a super job. They've played a tremendous schedule. They are 0-3, but have played Louisville and two FCS ranked opponents where they played them really well. They got a good football team and we will get a true test where we are after this week."
