TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | Coriah Beck and
Moses Davenport combined for 21 points as the Alabama A&M University women's basketball team fell to Alabama, 66-43, on Monday night at Coleman Coliseum.
Beck scored all 11 of her team-high points in the first half and finished with four rebounds and three assists. Davenport recorded 10 points and three boards.
Jessica Timmons registered 11 of her team-high 13 points in the opening half and added five boards and one assist. Essence Cody posted 13 points, seven boards and three steals, while Diana Collins chipped in 10 points and three assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama (4-0) jumped out to a 12-4 advantage after a Naomi Jones layup with just over five minutes to play in the opening quarter, but Alabama A&M used a small 6-2 run, capped by a Beck bucket to cut the deficit to 14-10 with 3:01 left.
The Crimson Tide, who led 20-12 after the first period, stretched the lead to 25-15 after a three-point play by Cody with 8:24 remaining in the second quarter.
Beck continued to have the hot hand in the first half for the Bulldogs, draining a triple to cut the deficit to 25-18 with just over seven minutes to play, but back came Alabama, extending the advantage to 36-24 at the break.
Alabama A&M (1-3) nearly went the first five minutes of the third quarter without a field goal as a
Jaida Belton layup closed the Crimson Tide's lead to 41-26 with 5:33 remaining.
Neither team could get much going offensively as Alabama closed the period on an 8-3 run to take a 49-31 advantage into the final quarter.
The Bulldogs continued to struggle from the field in the fourth as Alabama pulled away to pick up the home victory.
