HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (6-6) jumped out to a 7-2 advantage after a
Sami Pissis jumper with just under 17 minutes to play in the opening half, but Chattanooga used a 15-7 run over the next six minutes to grab a 17-14 lead after a Billy Smith triple with 11:08 remaining.
The Mocs (6-7) stretched their lead to 29-22 after a three-point play by Jordan Frison with 5:25 left, but the Bulldogs continued to battle back, trimming the margin to the 29-25 after a layup by
Tajden Davis with 4:39 remaining.
Chattanooga got a trey by Smith to push the advantage to 37-29 with 1:24 left, but back-to-back buckets by
Gabe Kincy and Pissis cut the deficit to 37-33 at the half.
The Bulldogs got five straight points from
Koron Davis to begin the second half to close the gap to just one point, 39-38, with 18:19 remaining, but back came the Mocs as Brennan Watkins caught fire with back-to-back triples to give Chattanooga a 47-41 advantage with 15:25 left.
Alabama A&M cut the deficit to four points, 47-43, with just over 14 minutes to play, but Chattanooga used a small 7-0 run, capped by a pair of Frison free throws to push the advantage into double digits, 54-43, with 12:05 remaining.
The Bulldogs went cold from the floor, going more than six minutes without a bucket from the floor before a Kincy trey snapped the drought as AAMU cut the deficit to 58-51 with 7:33 left.
A Dozier layup trimmed the margin to 69-64 with 1:31 remaining, but that would be as close as the Bulldogs would get as Chattanooga sealed the game at the foul line.
