Shade Named to 2024-25 ABIS Watchlist

BROOKLYN, N.Y. | Alabama A&M University head football coach Sam Shade was among seven coaches and 21 assistant coaches who have been selected to the 2024-25 Advancement of Blacks in Sports (ABIS) Watchlist.

The ADBS is the voice of racial equity in sports and coaches are nominated by their peers and others within the football ecosystem.

"We're proud to be a part of creating this Watchlist for these well-deserving coaches," said ABIS Founder and CEO Gary Charles.

Shade, who begins his first season as the head football coach at Alabama A&M, is coming off a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) championship at Miles College last year.

This is the fourth year of the ABIS Coaches Watchlist. It has become a great resource for sports executives, athletic administrators and search firms.

Three highlights from the list of coaches are the Philadelphia Eagles land three coaches on the list; Marcus Freeman (Notre Dame) is the first Black Head Coach to lead a team to the FBS National Championship game and T.C. Taylor (Jackson State) leads school to its first Celebration Bowl win. Celebrating Black excellence in sports is what drives ABIS to showcase these coaches and present the Watchlist each year.
