PINE BLUFF, Ark. | AC Bryant scored 18 of his game-high 31 points in the second half as the Alabama A&M University men's basketball team used a big second-half run and didn't look back in defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 75-61, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Monday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Alabama A&M (9-17 overall, 5-8 SWAC) led 29-24 at the half, but used a 22-4 run to open the second half and didn't look back in winning its second consecutive road game. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-22, 1-12) opened the second half by going 4-of-19 from the floor and could not recover from the big deficit.
Bryant went 13-of-17 from the floor to finish with 31 points, six rebounds, four steals, one assist and one block.
Chad Moodie recorded a double-double of 16 points and 12 boards, along with two assists, one steal and one block.
Dylan Mclean tossed in 10 points, including going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Doctor Bradley paced Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 21 points, eight boards, five assists, four steals and one blocked shot.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M held Arkansas-Pine Bluff without a field goal for nearly the opening five minutes as the Bulldogs raced out to a 7-3 advantage after a dunk by
Saliou Seye with 15:22 remaining.
The Golden Lions responded with an 8-2 run to grab an 11-9 advantage after a Bradley bucket with 12:40 left and took a 22-18 lead after Klemen Vuga's four straight points with just over four minutes to play in the half.
However, Alabama A&M ended the half strong, holding Arkansas-Pine Bluff without a field goal over the final 4:42 as the Bulldogs took a 29-24 lead into the break.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with nine straight points, capped by a Moodie layup, as AAMU stretched its lead to 38-24 with 17:11 remaining.
Alabama A&M pushed the margin to 51-28 after nine straight points by Bryant with just over 13 minutes to play.
Buckets by
Dylan Mclean and Bryant extended AAMU's lead to 57-34 with 7:52 left but Arkansas-Pine Bluff used a 20-7 run, capped by a Chop Paljor triple, closing the gap to 64-54 with 3:46 remaining.
However, the Bulldogs used an 8-1 run over the next minute plus in extending the advantage to 72-55 with just over two minutes remaining.
The Golden Lions could not rally during the final minutes in dropping their fourth straight game.
