Mclean, Seye Pace AAMU in Road Loss

GRAMBLING, La. | Dylan Mclean and Saliou Seye each recorded 10 points as the Alabama A&M University men's basketball team suffered its second consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) setback, falling 67-51 to Grambling State on Thursday evening at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
 
Alabama A&M (10-20 overall, 6-11 SWAC) shot 21.4 percent in the first half, while Grambling State led 35-19 at the break and did not look back in completing the season sweep of the Bulldogs.
 
Mclean scored eight of his 10 points in the first half, while adding three rebounds and one steal. Seye tossed in 10 points, four boards and one assist, while AC Bryant tallied nine points, two assists and one board.
 
James Flippin paced Grambling State (10-20, 7-10) with 18 points, three assists and two rebounds. Kintavious Dozier registered 11 points, three assists, two boards and one steal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
A Chad Moodie dunk with 14:52 remaining in the first half tied the game at 6, but the Bulldogs went more than four minutes without a bucket as Grambling State used a 7-1 run to take a 13-7 advantage with just over 11 minutes left.
 
Alabama A&M snapped a nearly six-minute scoring drought with just under five minutes as Grambling State built a 15-point lead, 27-12, after a Louis Hutchinson triple. 
 
The Bulldogs closed the gap to 27-18 after six straight points by Mclean with 3:17 left, but back came Grambling State, pushing the advantage to 31-18 after a Dozier jumper with 1:41 remaining.
 
Back-to-back baskets by Flippin gave the Tigers a commanding 35-19 lead at the break.
 
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a trey from Seye and a jumper by AC Bryant, closing the deficit to 35-24, but the Tigers responded with five points of their own, extending the advantage to 40-24 with 17:37 remaining.
 
Grambling State extended the lead to 18 points, 52-34, with just over 10 minutes to play. A&M closed the gap to 52-41 after a Quincy McGriff 3-pointer with 8:34 left, but buckets by Antwan Burnett and P.J. Eason pushed the lead to 56-41 with 7:20 remaining.
 
Alabama A&M could not rally during the final seven minutes in dropping its second consecutive game.
