Bulldogs Open 2025 Slate with a Pair of Road Contests

THE HILL | The Alabama A&M women's soccer team is set to begin the 2025 slate on the road, as the Bulldogs travel to take on the Longwood University Lancers on Thursday before facing the Delaware State Hornets on Sunday afternoon. Thursdays contest has a start time of 5 p.m. CST and will be live streamed on ESPN+, while Sunday's noon kickoff can be watched via NEC Front Row.

The match is the first regular season event of the new athletic year on the AAMU calendar. The Bulldogs look to continue the momentum from the end of last season, where they went undefeated in the final two competitions of the regular season, including a 2-1 victory over rival Alabama State, before heading to the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament. AAMU defeated Jackson State in the quarterfinals but fell just short in a 2-1 decision to Texas Southern in the semifinals.

AAMU welcomes 15 new faces to the program which includes 12 true freshman and three transfer athletes. The signing group features six forwards, four defenders, three midfielders and two goalkeepers. The new talent comes from across North America, including Canada, Maryland, Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, Washington, Ohio and Florida. The roster also includes two hometown additions, with a pair of true freshmen from Bob Jones and Grissom High Schools in the metro Huntsville area.

Amongst returners for the Bulldogs is 2024 Freshman of the Year Czaske Deane, and 2025 all conference honorees Anita Frederick-Sigaran, Meghane St-Cyr and Albany Rios.

Now in his third season at the helm, AAMU head coach Prince Borde is more than happy that the season is finally here. "As a staff, we are very excited about the season", he said. "We had a great camp and are ready for the start of the season. We have made enormous strides in the past three years and will just continue to improve", he continued. "Every day we are trying to be great and at the end of the day, we are doing something we love and look forward to great performances."

The Lancers are coming off a postseason run in the Big South when they hosted Presbyterian – whom AAMU is set to face later this season- in the Quarterfinals. Longwood closed its regular season with a strong defensive showing, not surrendering a goal in its final four matches, going 2-0-2 to clinch a spot in the conference tournament for the first time in three years, similar to the Bulldogs. Longwood returns six student-athletes that earned preseason honors, including the 2024 Big South Goalkeeper of the Year.

Delaware State is looking for a fresh start after going 0-17-1 last season, with the sole tie being a road match at Wagner College. The Hornets return 12 athletes, including Nicole Cargill, Trinity Surowiec and Nileigha Williams, the teams top shot takers.
