THE HILL | The Alabama A&M women's soccer team will welcome the Saluki's of Southern Illinois and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Thursday and Sunday, respectively. Both contests are scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Admission is free to the public.
The Maroon and White look to add another to the win column after claiming their first victory of the season after defeating Howard University, 1-0, in the Bulldog home opener. Freshman Danija Walker was the lone scorer in the contest, earning her first collegiate goal in the 17th minute. Freshman Adriana Durango also earned her first clean sheet of the season, saving all eight of HU's on target shots.
Southern Illinois looks to continue their winning streak, starting their season with three consecutive wins, including victories over Eastern Illinois, Southeast Missouri State and IU Indy. Dory Latenser leads the SIU with two goals and one assist, while seven other Saluki's have also scored goals this season. Sophia Schlicklin and Olivia Anderson both earned Missouri Valley Conference preseason honors.
Jacksonville State started the season with a 1-1-2 record through four games, opening the season with a 3-2 win over West Georgia before a scoreless tie against North Alabama. The Gamecocks suffered their first loss of the season after falling 3-0 to Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent Mississippi State University. JSU most recently leveled a match with UNC Asheville in a 1-1 result. Each of the four goals through the season were scored by four different Gamecocks. Jax State holds the all-time record over the Bulldogs, winning six of the eight meetings. AAMU claimed its most recent victory in 2022, claiming a 1-0 win in Huntsville.
