THE HILL | Moses Davenport posted a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds as the Alabama A&M University women's basketball team used a big first quarter to roll past Alcorn State, 76-34, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Saturday at the AAMU Event Center.
The Bulldogs (7-9, 3-1 SWAC) jumped out early and never looked back, holding Alcorn State to just four points (and just one field goal) in the opening quarter while building an 18–4 lead after the first 10 minutes. The Maroon & White continued to control the tempo in the second quarter, extending the margin to 39–18 at halftime.
Davenport, who had 12 points and seven boards at the half, also led the Bulldogs in steals (two) and blocks (two).
Kalia Walker added 19 points, knocking down five three-pointers, while
Aniya Palmer finished with 12 points and three assists.
Rakiyah Beal chipped in six points, six rebounds and four assists, and
Coriah Beck added six points off the bench.
Alabama A&M shot 53.1 percent from the field for the game while limiting Alcorn State to just 21.3 percent shooting. The Bulldogs also forced 16 turnovers and converted them into 20 points, while winning the rebounding battle, 40–27.
AAMU continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Alcorn State 18–9 to push the lead to 57–27 heading into the final period. The Bulldogs closed the game strong in the fourth quarter, using balanced scoring and defensive pressure to seal the 42-point victory.
The Bulldogs finished with 30 points in the paint, 12 fast-break points and received 25 points from the bench.
Kiarra Henderson paced Alcorn State (5-9, 2-1) with eight points, seven boards, two assists and two steals, while Lauren Nelson chipped in seven points.
