Brown, Bean Earn SWAC Weekly Football Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University quarterback Cornelious Brown IV was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Week, while wide receiver Jaylan Bean earned Newcomer of the Week honors on Monday following their standout performances in the Bulldogs' 61-31 Homecoming victory over Grambling State.

The duo, who earned Stats Perform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention, helped Alabama A&M improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play Saturday at Louis Crews Stadium.

Brown completed 22 of 38 passes for 417 yards and five touchdowns, adding an 8-yard rushing touchdown to account for six scores. He directed an Alabama A&M offense that amassed 669 total yards and 29 first downs.

After the Bulldogs fell behind 17-3 early in the second quarter, Brown sparked the comeback with his touchdown run before connecting with Bean for a 61-yard score. He threw four touchdown passes during AAMU's 35-point third quarter, including three to Bean and a 46-yard strike to Jarel Williams.

Bean, who was selected Co-HBCU National Player of the Week, finished with 10 receptions for a career-high 240 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 24 yards per catch. His touchdown receptions covered 61, 6, 67 and 19 yards, providing the Bulldogs with explosive plays throughout the comeback.

The receiver caught three touchdown passes in the third quarter as Alabama A&M extended a 19-17 halftime advantage into a 54-25 lead entering the fourth.

The Bulldogs' 61 points and 30-point margin of victory were their best against Grambling State. Alabama A&M also reached the 60-point mark for the first time since scoring 63 against Central State in 2019.

Bethune-Cookman's Jaden Davis and Prairie View A&M's Ethan Eddins earned the SWAC Defensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week honors, respectively.

Following an open week, AAMU faces Alabama State in the 85th Amazon Magic City Classic presented by Coca-Cola on Oct. 31 at Legion Field in Birmingham. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
