Lady Bulldogs Snap Seven-Year Drought with Sweep of Hornets

THE HILL | Alabama A&M University volleyball delivered a dominant performance Friday night, sweeping Alabama State, 3-0, at the Event Center. The Bulldogs took the match by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-14 to improve to 10-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play.


Alabama A&M came out firing in the opening set, hitting .480 as a team while recording 15 kills. The Bulldogs quickly established control behind a balanced offensive attack and strong play at the net, closing out the first set, 25-13.


The Bulldogs carried that momentum into the second set, producing 17 kills and hitting .406. Alabama A&M built an early lead and maintained its advantage throughout the frame before securing another 25-13 victory.


Alabama A&M completed the sweep in the third set, hitting .290 with 12 kills. The Bulldogs used another strong start to create separation and never surrendered control, finishing the match with a 25-14 victory.


Rayishon Jackman led the Bulldogs offensively with nine kills while hitting .438, adding three service aces. Gerren Tomlin followed with 10 kills and a team-high .500 hitting percentage. Carys Sanabria was nearly flawless offensively, recording eight kills on 12 attacks without an error for a .667 hitting percentage.


Amya Jennings also delivered an efficient performance, finishing with seven kills on 10 attacks for a .600 hitting percentage. Scholar Bates contributed eight kills, while Kaydee Smith directed the offense with 23 assists.


Defensively, Alabama A&M recorded nine total team blocks and held Alabama State to a -.050 hitting percentage. The Bulldogs also finished the match with a .386 team hitting percentage while winning the sideout battle in all three sets.


With the victory, Alabama A&M improves to 10-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Alabama State falls to 2-14 overall and 0-3 in conference action. 


Tonight's win has been the first win since 2019 and first sweep since 2015.
