Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Free Throws by Beck Lift Alabama A&M to 10th Straight Win

BATON ROUGE, La. | Coriah Beck went to the foul line with the game tied and sank both shots with one second remaining as the Alabama A&M University women's basketball team came from behind to defeat Southern, 56-54, to win its 10th straight Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Saturday at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

Alabama A&M (14-9 overall, 10-1 SWAC) trailed by as many as eight points late in the third quarter, but outscored Southern, 18-11, in the final period to earn its 10th consecutive victory.

Kalia Walker went 5-of-7 from the floor to finish with a game-high 15 points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds. Beck tossed in 11 points, including going 3-of-4 from the free-throw line, with six boards, one block and one steal. Jaida Belton finished with nine points and nine boards, along with three steals and two blocks.

Jestiny Dixon and Olivia Delancy each poured in 10 points to lead Southern.

First Quarter
Southern (11-11, 7-4) opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, but Alabama A&M answered quickly behind defensive pressure and transition opportunities. Beck connected on a three at the 6:35 mark to even the score, and Belton followed with a second-chance layup as the Bulldogs briefly grabbed the lead. The Jaguars countered late, and the quarter ended tied at 15–15 after a Southern layup in the final seconds.

Second Quarter
The Bulldogs and Jaguars continued to trade baskets throughout a tightly contested second period. Davenport scored on a tip-in midway through the quarter, and Walker buried a clutch three-pointer off a turnover to give AAMU a brief edge. Southern responded with a three of its own, but Walker answered again from deep with 15 seconds remaining to knot the score at 27–27 heading into halftime.

Third Quarter
Southern opened the third quarter with a quick scoring spurt and used defensive pressure to build its largest lead of the game at eight points. Alabama A&M stayed within striking distance behind offensive rebounds and inside scoring from Moses Davenport and Belton. Walker drained a second-chance three-pointer with under 30 seconds remaining to trim the deficit to 43–38 entering the fourth.

Fourth Quarter
Alabama A&M seized control early in the final period, opening on a 10–0 run fueled by Walker's perimeter shooting and strong defensive stops. Beck and Belton combined for key baskets in the paint as the Bulldogs reclaimed the lead at 48–47 with under six minutes remaining.

Southern answered to pull even late, but Belton converted inside, and Beck added critical free throws to push AAMU ahead.
