ATLANTA, Ga. | Koron Davis and
Bilal Abdur-Rahman combined to score 43 points as the Alabama A&M University men's basketball team outlasted Texas Southern, 85-74 in overtime, on Thursday afternoon in the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals at the Gateway Center Arena.
Alabama A&M (18-14) snapped a 23-game losing streak during the quarterfinal victory as the Bulldogs had not beaten Texas Southern since the 2014 season.
AAMU, the fifth seed in the tournament, advances to Friday's semifinal matchup against eighth-seeded Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m. (CT) from the Gateway Center Arena. The Panthers reached the semifinals with victories over Alcorn State and top seed Bethune-Cookman. Texas Southern concludes the season at 12-18.
Davis led the way for Alabama A&M, scoring a game-high 24 points, along with six rebounds and a pair of assists. Rahman came off the bench to provide 19 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, with three assists and one board.
Kintavious Dozier scored all 12 of his points in the second half.
Jaylen Wysinger paced Texas Southern with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal. Bryce Roberts and Duane Posey recorded 15 and 13 points, respectively.
First Half
Texas Southern opened the afternoon with an early basket before Alabama A&M answered behind Davis, who scored on a fast-break layup and converted a free throw to give the Bulldogs an early 4-2 edge.
Sami Pissis knocked down a three-pointer midway through the half to keep Alabama A&M in front, and
Lou Hutchinson later connected from long range to tie the game at 10-10.
Texas Southern responded with a small run sparked by Wysinger and Posey to push the Tigers ahead by as many as seven points. Alabama A&M answered late in the half as Abdur-Rahman drilled a three-pointer and
James Graham III added a put-back dunk to trim the deficit.
Despite the Bulldogs' late push, Texas Southern closed the half with a Bryce Roberts three-pointer and carried a 31-27 lead into halftime.
Second Half
Alabama A&M quickly erased the deficit after the break as Davis opened the half with a three-pointer to pull the Bulldogs within one.
Texas Southern pushed its lead to nine midway through the period following free throws from Zaire Hayes, but Alabama A&M slowly chipped away behind timely perimeter shooting.
Abdur-Rahman buried a three from the wing, and Davis followed with another triple to bring the Bulldogs within three. Moments later, Dozier connected from deep to give Alabama A&M a brief lead.
The teams traded baskets down the stretch in a tightly contested final minutes. Abdur-Rahman knocked down a clutch three with under four minutes remaining, and Davis added a free throw to push the Bulldogs ahead.
Texas Southern tied the game in the final minute on free throws from Alex Anderson, and Alabama A&M's last-second three attempt missed, sending the contest to overtime tied at 66-66.
Overtime
Alabama A&M took control in the extra period.
The Bulldogs opened overtime with a quick run as Abdur-Rahman and Davis combined for key baskets before the defense forced several Texas Southern misses.
Dozier added another three-pointer during the stretch and Alabama A&M capitalized at the free-throw line to extend the margin. The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 19-8 in overtime, sealing the 85-74 victory.

Alabama A&M, the No. 5 seed, will meet Prairie View A&M, the No. 8 seed, in the SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament Semifinals on Friday. Tip-off against the Panthers is set for 1 p.m. (CT) from the Gateway Center Arena.
