THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University men's basketball program has reached a milestone more than two decades in the making, securing its first winning season in 21 years during the 2025-26 campaign.
The Bulldogs' achievement marks a significant step forward for the program under head coach
Donte' Jackson, as Alabama A&M finished the regular season with a record above .500 for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
Throughout the year, the Bulldogs demonstrated resilience and growth while competing in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Alabama A&M produced several key victories, showcased balanced scoring, and developed a defensive identity that allowed the team to remain competitive throughout the season. In addition, AAMU won 12 times at home this season, surpassing previous marks at the Division I level of 11 victories (three times).
The milestone represents a turning point for a program that has steadily built momentum over the past several seasons. Under Jackson's leadership, the Bulldogs have focused on player development, culture, and consistency—elements that culminated in the program's historic winning campaign.
"This accomplishment is a testament to the work our student-athletes and coaching staff have put in every day," Jackson said. "They believed in the vision, stayed committed through adversity, and represented Alabama A&M the right way. To bring a winning season back to this program after more than two decades is something we're extremely proud of."
Several Bulldogs emerged as key contributors during the season, helping power the team's turnaround with timely scoring, rebounding, and defensive intensity. Alabama A&M also demonstrated depth throughout the roster, with multiple players stepping up in critical moments during conference play.
Alabama A&M now turns its attention to the 2026 SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament as the Bulldogs, the No. 5 seed, open play in the quarterfinals against fourth-seeded Texas Southern at 1 p.m. (CT) on Thursday at the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Ga.
