BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University football team was chosen fifth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) East Division predicted order of finish, the conference announced on Wednesday during media day at the Sheraton-Birmingham Hotel.
Alabama A&M, which went 4-8 overall and finished tied for fifth in the conference standings with a 1-7 record, registered 66 points in claiming the fifth spot in the predicted order of finish.
Alabama State was chosen first in the East Division, with 16 first-place votes and 131 points, while Jackson State was selected second with 122 points. Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M received 71 and 70 points, respectively, and Mississippi Valley State rounded out the East with 29 points.
In the SWAC West Division, Prairie View A&M, the defending conference champions, received 19 first-place votes and 130 points to garner the top spot. Grambling State was second with 93 points, followed by Alcorn State (90 points), Texas Southern (79 points), Southern (65 points) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (32 points).
Alabama A&M kicks off the 2026 season with the annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge on Saturday, Aug. 29 against Howard in Atlanta, Ga. Kickoff against the Bison is set for 6:30 p.m. (CT) from Center Parc Stadium and nationally televised on ABC. The Bulldogs will have their home opener one week later with the 16
th Annual Louis Crews Classic as AAMU plays host to Miles College.
