THE HILL | The Alabama A&M volleyball team overcame an opening-set loss to defeat North Carolina Central, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at Elmore Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs (3-0) earned the victory by scores of 15-25, 27-29, 26-24, 25-20 and 15-10.
After dropping the first two sets, Alabama A&M responded in a tightly contested third frame. The Bulldogs fought their way to a 26-24 victory before carrying the momentum into the fourth, recording 17 kills and hitting .306 to force a decisive fifth set.
AAMU completed the comeback with an efficient final frame, registering eight kills with only three errors for a .294 hitting percentage. The Bulldogs pulled ahead early and closed the match with a 15-10 victory.
Rayishon Jackman led Alabama A&M with a double-double, finishing with 15 kills and 10 digs while hitting .250. Gerren Tomlin added 13 kills, while Scholar Bates contributed 11 kills, three digs and four total blocks.
Amya Jennings recorded eight kills, and Cherrish Robinson finished with five kills on seven attacks for a match-high .571 hitting percentage. Kaydee Smith dished out 19 assists, while Briana Smith added 20 assists, seven digs and two service aces.
Defensively, Molly Chappell and Kelani Talakai collected 10 digs apiece as the Bulldogs finished with 49 digs and 12 total blocks.
Alabama A&M totaled 56 kills, 51 assists and six service aces in the victory.
