Iyndia Bey has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Bey earned the honor following a strong performance at the Southern Showcase Open, helping Alabama A&M capture the team championship Friday at John Hunt Cross Country Running Park in Huntsville.
Bey was one of five Bulldogs to finish among the top 20 as Alabama A&M turned in an impressive team performance on its home course. Her effort helped the Bulldogs secure the team title and continued a strong start to her first collegiate cross country season.
Alabama State's Aliyah Williams was chosen the SWAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week. On the men's side, Andrew Kiplagat and Jayden Santos-Gonzales were named runner of the week and newcomer of the week, respectively.
Alabama A&M returns to action at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Louisville Classic.
