BIRMINGHAM, AL. | Alabama A&M University women's soccer freshman Jordyn Washington has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Week following her standout performance for the Bulldogs.

Washington helped lead Alabama A&M to a 3-0 shutout victory over South Carolina State on Sunday, scoring the game's opening goal in the third minute. The forward found the back of the net off an assist from Moriah Watkins, giving the Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage.

The goal marked Washington's third of the season, as she continues to make an immediate impact during her first season with the Bulldogs. Washington also scored in Alabama A&M's 2-1 victory over Chicago State earlier this season, contributing to the Bulldogs' first win of the 2026 campaign.

Against South Carolina State, Washington recorded one shot, placing her lone attempt on target, while playing 66 minutes. Her early goal helped set the tone for an offensive performance that saw the Bulldogs outshoot the Lady Bulldogs 12-6 and place eight shots on goal.

With the victory, Alabama A&M improved to 2-4-2 on the season and earned its second shutout of the campaign.

Washington and the Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, September 27, traveling to face Grambling State at noon.
