THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Tennessee State on Tuesday night, defeating the Tigers 25-19, 25-15, 26-28, 25-17 at AAMU Event Center.
The Bulldogs opened the match with a strong offensive performance, hitting .191 as a team in the first set. Alabama A&M built an early advantage and maintained control throughout the frame to take a 1-0 lead.
AAMU continued its momentum in the second set, posting a .296 hitting percentage while limiting Tennessee State to a -.103 mark. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and closed the set, 25-15, to move within one set of the match victory.
Tennessee State battled back in the third set, edging the Bulldogs 28-26 in a tightly contested frame. AAMU fought off multiple late-set runs to force extra points, but the Tigers ultimately secured the set to make it a 2-1 match.
The Bulldogs responded in the fourth set, hitting .231 while collecting 16 kills. After Tennessee State took an early lead, AAMU used a strong stretch midway through the set to regain control and pulled away for the 25-17 victory.
Rayishon Jackman led the Bulldogs with 15 kills and a .324 hitting percentage, while Amya Jennings added 14 kills and hit .300. Gerren Tomlin contributed 13 kills, and Carys Sanabria finished with five kills.
Briana Smith directed the AAMU offense with 31 assists, while Kelani Talakai recorded 28 digs. Jackman added 10 digs, while Jennings finished with five.

As a team, Alabama A&M recorded 57 kills on 150 attacks for a .213 hitting percentage. The Bulldogs also totaled 51 assists, 73 digs and eight service aces.
With the victory, Alabama A&M improves to 7-7 overall on the season.
