BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M sophomore setter Kaydee Smith has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Setter of the Week following a standout opening weekend of conference play.
Smith helped lead the Bulldogs to a perfect 2-0 start in SWAC play, recording 50 assists across two matches. The Mooresville, North Carolina native opened the weekend with 18 assists in Alabama A&M's 3-0 sweep of Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 25.
Smith followed that performance with a career-best 32 assists in Alabama A&M's thrilling 3-2 victory over Florida A&M on Sept. 27. Her playmaking helped the Bulldogs produce 69 kills and 65 assists in the five-set victory, as Alabama A&M rallied to secure the win.
The 50 assists ranked among the top individual totals in the conference for the weekend, as Smith helped direct an Alabama A&M offense that recorded back-to-back conference victories. The SWAC's weekly roundup highlighted Smith among the league leaders in assists during the opening weekend of conference play.
Smith currently ranks among Alabama A&M's leading assist producers on the season, totaling 282 assists through 16 matches while averaging 4.62 assists per set. She has also contributed 15 service aces and 67 digs for the Bulldogs.
Alabama A&M will return to action on Friday, Oct. 2, hosting Alabama State at 6 p.m. CT at the AAMU Event Center.
