Brandon Houston begins his third season as assistant coach with the men’s basketball program at Alabama A&M University.
Houston joined the Bulldog staff after spending four years at Alabama A&M as a player from 2017-2021, playing under head coach Donnie Marsh and Dylan Howard. During his tenure with the Bulldogs, Houston was a team captain for his last two seasons and served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee(SAAC) for three years.
Since joining the Bulldog staff in 2022, Houston has primarily worked with the post players. He had a big impact on the development of 2023 SWAC Defensive Player of the Year and G League Draftee Blaise Akonobi and 2024 SWAC Freshman of the Year Chad Moodie.
During the 2022-23 season, Akonobi had big games against Big Ten opponent Illinois with nine points and 6 rebounds. In the 2023-24 season, Moodie had great showings with 21 points against Prairie View A&M and 24 points against Austin Peay in the postseason CIT tournament.
In addition to his work with the post players, Houston also helps with scouting opponents and recruiting.
Houston is from Birmingham, Ala. where he graduated from Ramsay High School in 2017. Bulldog Basketball is familiar to the Houston family as his father, Baryon (‘88) and Brother B.J. (‘16), were both members of the program as well.
