Rodney Broughton Jr. is in his first season as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Alabama A&M University.
He joins the Bulldog staff after spending spent 5 years at Meridian Community College as an assistant coach from 2017-2022, working under Head Coach James Green. During his tenure with the Eagles, he helped build a program that previous won three games the year before the staff’s arrival to winning 22 games, the most since 1999, including a pair of wins over top-25 teams.
The Eagles also made it to the Region 23 Championship game during the 21-22 season. During that time, the program had five players nominated to the All-MACCC team, along with sending numerous players to four-year colleges and universities.
Prior to his stop at Meridian, Broughton spent two seasons with Northwestern State serving as a graduate assistant and video coordinator from 2015-17, following a season with the University of Mobile.
During the 2014-15 season, Broughton helped the Rams allow an average of just 62 points per game and earn numerous top-10 national defensive rankings.
Broughton worked with both the varsity and junior varsity teams at Mobile where his duties also included recruiting, overseeing team academics, camps and organizing the program’s Alumni Day.
Before coaching at Mobile, Broughton spend two years coaching at Mary G. Montgomery High School in Semmes, Alabama. There Broughton was the head coach of the Vikings freshman team and a varsity assistant.
Prior to his coaching career, Broughton earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of South Alabama.
He played basketball at Bishop State Community College in Mobile, Alabama, after his high school playing career at John L. Leflore Magnet School in Mobile.
