Bulldogs Defeated at Pine Bluff

Cantey scores career high 17

Box Score / PINE BLUFF, AR - Arkansas-Pine Bluff closed the first half of Monday's men's basketball game on an 8-0 run that gave them a five-point halftime lead, and Alabama A&M never recovered in the second half as the Golden Lions stretched the lead to a 70-56 win in SWAC play. Casey Cantey's career-high 17 points on 6-13 shooting was not enough to get the Bulldogs their first road victory of the season. A&M's shooting woes continued hitting just 35 percent for the game and 29 percent in the second half.

The Bulldogs and Lions seesawed throughout the first half before the hosts closed the half with a burst to take a 33-28 lead to the lockerroom.

Alabama A&M head coach Vann Pettaway said that is when his team lost the momentum it would never regain. "We play in spurts, and right now teams are just playing harder than us over the entire 40 minutes. We turned the ball over too much and got tight in the second half when they opened up a lead on us."

The Bulldogs committed 21 turnovers against limited pressure from UAPB and were outrebounded 44-33.  A&M also hit just 17 percent from behind the three-point arc.

Cornelius Hester added 14 points, and Jonathan Inman had eight points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Bulldogs, who have now lost three straight games since winning their SWAC opener and must host rival Alabama State on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The Hornets lead the league at 4-0.
