Box Score / HOUSTON, TX - Alabama A&M trailed by as many as 19 points in the second half, but rallied to make the game a one-possession contest with just under 20 seconds remaining Saturday night in a 71-67 loss at Texas Southern. Trant Simpson led the Bulldogs with 18 points and 10 assists on the night. He moved past the 1,000-point mark for his career. He now has 1,012 in his Bulldog career.
Texas Southern built a 36-28 halftime lead and then opened the second half with a 10-0 run to seemingly put the game away. Alabama A&M stormed back, led by Desmond Jackson's three-point efforts and pulled back to within 54-47 with just over 11:00 to play. Jackson finished the night with 11 points, along with Cornelius Hester. Casey Cantey was also in double figures for the Bulldogs with 10.
The Bulldogs would continue to chip away at the Tigers' lead, but were never able to overcome the entire deficit. A&M falls to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in the SWAC. Texas Southern improves to 2-19 and 2-6.
Alabama A&M will play Monday at Prairie View beginning at 8:00 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPN-U.
