Alabama A&M's defense forced five turnovers and blocked a punt for a touchdown to rally the Bulldogs to a 35-15 win over Tuskegee at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday. The Golden Lions stormed to a 15-0 lead early in the second quarter before A&M mounted its comeback. Ulysses Banks rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries to earn Offensive MVP honors, while Jeremy Maddox tallied 3.0 sacks to get the nod as Defensive MVP.
A&M didn't get the lead until the first play of the fourth quarter when Jeremy Licea tied his career long effort of a 46-yard field goal to give the Bulldogs an 18-15 lead. The Bulldogs had tied the score with 4:21 remaining in the third when Markieth Cliatt blocked a Tuskegee punt in the end zone, and it was recovered by Larry Lumpkin for the touchdown. Kevin Atkins added the two-point conversion to tie the game at 15.
After tying the game on the blocked punt, the Bulldog defense forced turnovers on the next four Tuskegee possessions and turned a tight game into a romp. Afu Okosun's interception led to a Tony Green one-yard touchdown, and Korey Morrison returned an interception 42 yards for a score as A&M scored 14 points in a span of 24 seconds to put the game away. Licea added a 39-yarder late in the game to make the final 35-15.
Tuskegee took the opening drive of the game 75 yards in just five plays to take a 6-0 lead on a Wayne Williams 19-yard reception from Jeremy Williams. The Golden Lions botched the extra point. TU added to the lead with 4:06 to play in the first on a 31-yard field goal by Eduardo Murillo. The Golden Lions made it 15-0 on a one-yard run by John Pascley with 13:30 to play in the first half.
Alabama A&M responded to cut the lead to 15-7 on a 49-yard touchdown run by Banks with 11:56 remaining in the half.
Vernon Marshall led the defensive effort with 10 total tackles.
The Bulldogs are now 4-1 on the season and head to Grambling next Saturday.
