Bulldogs Cruise Past Martin Methodist, 76-55

Box Score / Sophomore Casey Cantey tied his career-high of 22 points as The Alabama A&M men’s basketball team rolled past the RedHawks of Martin Methodist at T.M. Elmore Gym on Sat. Nov. 21. Cantey went 8-for-13 from the floor, including 4-for-6 from behind the arc in 27 minutes of action. Desmond Jackson tallied 16 points and five rebounds. Bo Amusa was a rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Marcus Lee dished out seven assists. With the win, A&M improves to 2-1 on the season. The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday when they host Stillman College at 7:30 p.m.

 

For the game, A&M scored 25 points off 17 Martin Methodist miscues. The Bulldogs also held a 44-38 edge on the glass.

 

In the second period, A&M led by as many as 26 points (65-39) off an Antonio Adams tip-in. The RedHawks used eight straight points to chip away at the margin, 65-47, at the 7:13 mark. Martin Methodist would get no closer, however, as the the Bulldogs cruised to the 76-55 victory. The RedHawks fall to 6-2 on the year.

 

For Martin Methodist, Aubre Bodison finished with a game-high 26 points and eight rebounds. Jamal Naylor chipped in with eight points. The RedHawks were held to a 33.9 percentage from the floor, including an 8-for-25 mark (32 percent) from behind the arc.

 

The Bulldogs opened the game with six straight points within the first two minutes of regulation. Ignited by a triple from Desmond Jackson, A&M used a 12-0 run to take a commanding 34-16 lead, with just over eight minutes left. The RedHawks cut the deficit to 14 (36-22) off a trey by Aubre Bodison, but A&M pushed the margin back to 18 (42-24) capped by another Jackson three-pointer. An Amusa jumper within the last minute, ended scoring for the half as the Bulldogs headed into intermission with a comfortable 44-24 cushion.

 

At the half, Cantey led all scorers with 17 points on stellar 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. Amusa and Jackson had 11 and 10 points, respectively. As a team, the Bulldogs converted 16-of-33 shots for a 48.5 shooting clip.
