A&M Edged By Stillman in Final Seconds

Casey Cantey scored a career-high 23 points









Box Score / Casey Cantey scored 14 of his career-high 23 points in the second half as the Alabama A&M men’s basketball team was edged by Stillman, 77-75, in the final seconds. The Bulldogs led by as many as 10 points, 71-61, off an Adam Young tip-in at 3:58. The Tigers ran off 10 straight unanswered to tie the score with 1:07 left in regulation. Two Jonathan Inman free throws at :48 gave A&M a slim two point advantage. The Bulldogs led 75-72 off a pair by Cornelius Hester at the stripe. A trey by Stillman’s Marquell Jones knotted it at 75. A crucial Bulldog turnover with seven seconds left gave the Tigers an opportunity for the last shot. Skyler Williams’ bucket at :2 left was enough as Stillman edged A&M. The Bulldogs are back in action on Tues. Dec. 1 when they play host to Auburn for a 7:30 p.m. tip at the Von Braun Center in downtown Huntsville.

 

Jonathan Inman finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Cornelius Hester went 4-for-7 for 10 points in 19 minutes. Adam Young chipped in seven points and pulled down eight off the glass. The Bulldogs lost the battle of the boards 77-75. A&M finished with a 48.3 shooting clip, while holding Stillman to just 43.5 shootings.

 

For the Tigers, four players finished in double figures. Gerard Devaughn tallied a team-high 18 points on 6-of-11 from the field. Jones and Omari Murray had 16 apiece. Williams finished with 10 on the night.


The first half was a see-saw affair as the lead changed hands five times. The Tigers used a 13-3 run to take a 31-21 lead – its largest of the game – just under the seven minute mark. The Bulldogs cut it to five off a Reggie Porter basket at the 3:15 mark. Stillman took a 41-38 lead into the lockerrom, however. Cantey had nine points in the first 20 for the Bulldogs. Adam Young pulled down five off the glass. As a team, A&M went 15-for-34 from the floor for a 44.1 shooting clip.


The Bulldogs host Auburn on Tues. Dec. 1 at the Von Braun Center for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
