Alabama A&M dropped its third straight game Saturday, 89-79, at Alcorn State. Four Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by Cornelius Hester with 22 points. Trant Simpson finished with 17, followed by 13 from Jonathan Belt and 12 from Desmond Jackson. Belt also finished with 10 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. Simpson tallied seven assists and four steals, but committed seven of the team's 18 turnovers.
The Braves took control in the first half hitting both 50 percent from the field and from behind the three-point arc. Alcorn led 39-21 at the break and never let the Bulldogs mount a serious threat in the second half. The Bulldogs got back to within six with 1:49 to play, but Kudus Ogbara missed two free throws that could have cut it to four, and Alcorn responded by building the lead back to eight.
The loss drops Alabama A&M to 5-8 in the SWAC and 7-14 overall. Alcorn State improves to 4-10 and 6-21. The Bulldogs remain on the road for Monday's showdown at Southern. The game will tip at an early start time of 4:00 in preparation for Mardi Gras in Louisiana.
