AAMU Closes Season with 3-game Win Streak

Bulldogs end season 4-13

The Alabama A&M men’s tennis team brought their 2009 season to a close with a 3-1 win against in-state rival, Alabama State on Friday.  The win is the Bulldogs 3rd in a row and 4th overall. Friday’s win came just ahead of a tornado warning that saw many of the Bulldogs dodging falling hail to get into the Elmore Gymnasium.

“Each year, we want to make improvements as a team and I think this year we did,” commented coach Thomas Colvin.  “We’ve had 1 win in each of the last 2 seasons and the 4 wins this year gives us some marked growth going into summer workouts and next season.”

With each team short on the men’s side, no one got the doubles point as the Bulldogs won at #2 doubles and ASU at #1 doubles.  From there, the Bulldogs got wins at #2, #3 and #5 to get 3 of the 5 singles points available.

“Playing in this kind of weather, trying to get the match in with these windy conditions and making sure the kids are safe, was quite an undertaking.  It was quite an interesting year and maybe it was fitting that it should end the way it did.”
