Bulldogs Open Season with 4-1 Loss to Troy

A&M wins second half, builds for season

BOX SCORE / PHOTO GALLERY / Playing with a limited and somewhat inexperienced roster on opening day, Alabama A&M dropped its debut to Troy, 4-1 at Bulldog Field on Friday. The Bulldogs began the game undermanned and with a goal keeper making her first career start, and it showed in the early going as the Trojans scored three times in the first 14-plus minutes to put the game out of reach.  A&M, however, regrouped after the early deficit and played the Trojans heads up for much of the latter part of the first half, and outscored the visitors 1-0 in the second half.  Celeste Roberts scored A&M's lone goal on a penalty kick midway through the second half.

Brittany Christian began the game in goal for A&M and took the loss. Whitney Jackson played the second half and shut out the Trojans, recording three saves in the process.

Roberts tallied the A&M goal on a penalty kick after being fouled inside the goalie box.  Roberts cleared her defender with a nice move with the ball towards goal before being brought down inside the box. She capitalized on the freebie finding the back of the net on the PK.

The Bulldogs are in action again Sunday as they hit the road for the first time this season. A&M faces Middle Tennessee State for a 1:00 p.m. start.
