NASHVILLE –Freshman guard Aylssa Strickland scored a career high 21 points in Alabama A&M’s first overtime loss of the 2010 season to Lipscomb University 77-70 on Monday evening.
A&M stayed close throughout the first half taking a 17-13 lead for the first time with 12:22 remaining on the clock. Lipscomb went on a 10-3 run to regain a lead that they held into intermission with a 36-27 advantage.
In the second half the Lady Bulldogs turned up the heat shooting 46 percent, wild holding the Bison’s to 30 percent from the field. The Maroon & White kept the game close and regained the 63-62 lead on a free throw from Jasmine Sanders. However a three-point from LU’s Anna Bowers gave the Bison’s a 65-63 lead with 37 seconds remaining.
A&M would not go down, as Whiquitta Tobar scored on a lay-up to tie the game 65 all and force overtime.
A 12-5 run from the Bison’s was all they needed in the extra five minutes to drop the Lady Bulldogs to 1-2 on the year.
A&M will break for Thanksgiving then resume their 2010 schedule heading east to Atlanta, Georgia to participate in the Georgia State University Tournament, Saturday and Sunday, November 27-28.
