BIRMINGHAM (AP) – The Alabama A&M Bulldogs fell 58-40 to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Sunday evening.
The Maroon & White held an 18-17 lead at halftime over the Blazers (8-2), who were coming off their longest layoff in program history.
With the Bulldogs (3-5) ahead 23-19 in the second, UAB used a 14-0 spurt, to take a 33-23 lead. The Maroon &
White scoring drought, which lasted over four minutes, ended with a 3-pointer by Desmond Jackson, who paced the Bulldogs with eight points.
UAB led by as many as 23 in the second half.
Neither team shot well in the first half, but the Blazers improved to 45.2 percent in the second (14 of 31), while the Bulldogs shot only 34.6 percent (9 of 26).
The loss drops head coach Vann Pettaway’s record versus the Blazers, to 0-7 in his 23 years at the helm of the Bulldogs.
A&M has one non-conference contest remaining on the 2010 portion of the schedule. A trip to Raleigh, North Carolina, on December 28, for a date with North Carolina State University at 3 p.m. in the RBC Center.
