PINE BLUFF – 1-11, that is the record since the 2005-06 season between the Alabama A&M men’s basketball team and the University of Arkansas Pine-Bluff squad. That record was extended to 1-12 as the Bulldogs fell for the 12th straight occasion 61-53 to the Golden Lions on ESPNU Monday night.
A&M (5-8, 2-2 SWAC) was led by senior Bo Amusa who scored 10 points on 4 of 7 shooting and pulled in six rebounds. Freshman Demarquelle Tabb was a spark for the Maroon and White off the bench finishing with 11 points and seven boards.
Shooting was the Achilles heel for the Bulldogs as they shot 17 of 52 from the field for 33 percent and 2 of 9 for 22% from the three-point line.
Before the end of this contest UAPB had not won a game this season and came in with a 0-14 overall record and a 0-2 mark in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
The Maroon & White was out-rebounded 39-32 and committed one more turnover in the game (18-17) compared to the Golden Lions.
UAPB was led in the game by Allen Smith and Savalance Townsend who each completed the game with 13 points.
The Bulldogs will regroup and prepare for in-state rival Alabama State University when they host the Hornets on Saturday, January 15. The contest has been deemed NCAA Pack the House Challenge and Maroon Out night.
