Bulldog Basketball opens on the Road

NORMAL - For the first time this season, the road is calling for the Alabama A&M basketball teams.

The Bulldogs hit the road to face Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana with tip-off set for 8 p.m., while the Lady Bulldogs opens at Vanderbilt. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Martin Methodist 91-71 in their only exhibition contest last Saturday. Whiquitta Tobar led the Lady Bulldogs against the Redhawks with 21 points followed by 14 from Gadsen transfer Shundray Davis.

The 2011-2012 version of Bulldog basketball will see a lot of new faces, but a familiar one has taken over as Willie Hayes was named head coach on May 26, 2011 and has immediately made his mark on the program.

“I feel really good about this team,” Hayes mentioned.  “I run a different system then what’s been running here before.”

“In our first game the biggest things is adjusting to the crowd.  I’m looking for our guys to playing hard and get rebounds.”

“We played two scrimmages with officials to help the guys adjust to the collegiate game,” Hayes mentioned.  “If we execute our offense and make Tulane play defense I think we can surprise them.”

Live audio for the men’s game is available on 90.9 FM WJAB beginning at 8:00 p.m.
