Lady Bulldogs roll Lady Hornets on Senior Night

NORMAL – The Alabama A&M Lady Bulldog volleyball team defeated their in-state rival the Lady Hornets of the Alabama State University three games to one.

Seniors Karensa Beckford, Christa Rodgers and Audrey Woods were honored as the three participated in their final contest in Elmore gymnasium.

The Lady Hornets came into Elmore gymnasium looking for revenge after losing to A&M last month in Montgomery. The Lady Hornets took game one 25-22. The second match needed extra time as the Lady Bulldogs even the game with a 28-26 match win.

After game two the three seniors were honored as well as retired athletic director Ms. Betty Austin. After the senior activities the four-time SWAC champion volleyball team went to work winning games three and four 25-19 and 28-26.

Junior Clarissa Moore led A&M with 21 kills and 10 digs. Senior Karensa Beckford posted 14 kills and 15 digs in her final regular season contest while senior Audrey Harris totaled 15 digs. Sophomore Mariah Brown was the third Lady Bulldog with double digit kills finishing with 12.

The Lady Hornets were led by Maya Bell who posted a .308 hitting percentage with 31 kills off of 65 attempts. She also had 11 digs. Roselande Corneille tallied 15 kills.

Alabama A&M will have seven days off to prepare to defend their title in the Southwestern Athletic Conference post season tournament. The annual event is set for November 18-19, in Westwego, Louisiana.
