Box Score

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama A&M shot a season low 24% in their second loss of the season to the No. 13 Alabama men's basketball team, 82-45, Wednesday night at Coleman Coliseum.

“You have to realize that when you play against a team as athletic as those guys are, they are a defensive minded team. That was one of my main concerns the first two to three minutes coming out of the gate," said head coach Willie Hayes. They did exactly what I thought they were going to do. They were aggressive defensively, but I didn’t expect (Rodney) Cooper to hit those two three pointers at the beginning of the game. I know he’s a shooter, but I didn’t expect him to shoot it that well.”

Only two A&M players scored in double digits. Sophomore Demarquelle Tabb led the Bulldogs with 11 points while senior Casey Cantey scored 10.

The Bulldogs shot one for 17 for 6% in the first half a season low.  18 of the 20 first half points came from the charity stripe.

The second half saw A&M shoot 35 percent from the floor (10-29).  The 18 turnovers really hurt the Maroon & White throughout the game.  They were outscored 38-14 in the paint, 23-3 in points off turnovers and 47-15 in bench points.

With the loss, the Maroon & White falls to 2-2 on the season.

“I can tell you that we have to play hard for 40 minutes. We have a tendency to come out sluggish, but we have to get on it from the jump," said Casey Cantey. We have to play hard, box out, rebound and the offense is going to come, but the defense and rebound we’ve got to work on.”

Alabama A&M returns to action Saturday night against South Alabama at the Mitchell Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT and the game can be listened to on WAJB 90.9 FM.
