BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Top-ranked Alcorn State (SWAC East) and Southern (SWAC West) headline the women’s field for the 2011 SWAC Tennis Championship, which gets under way Friday, April 15 at the Alexandria (La.) City Park Tennis Complex and the Alexandria Racquet & Aquatic Club.
The Lady Braves (7-1 SWAC) are going for their fourth SWAC title and their second in four years. The Lady Jaguars (7-0 SWAC) seeks its sixth championship in the past nine years and 10th overall. Southern will wrap up its conference season on Saturday, April 2 with a matchup against Jackson State.
The men’s field is headlined by top seed Alcorn State (6-0 SWAC). The Braves have won five SWAC men’s titles and last picked up the championship hardware in 2009.
