AAMU Defeats Albany State, 3-0

NORMAL -- After being on the road for two weeks, the Lady Bulldogs returned home to defeat the Lady Rams of Albany State 3-0, on Thursday night in the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.

Clairissa Moore led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 kills and six digs on the evening. Moore‘s hitting percentage was .321 vs. the Lady Rams.  The senior leader also scored the winning points for the Maroon and White at the end of games one and two.

Albany State came out strong in the third set tying the score at 16 all. After an attack error by A&M’s Mary Aponte, the Lady Rams took their first lead of the match, 17-16. Both teams traded points to even the game at 19 all. From there A&M took control and won game three and the match 25-19.

Mariah Brown came alive with 12 kills on 25 attempts. Brown had a blistering .400 hitting percentage and eight digs. Teammate Ashley Forman spread the ball around which got her 43 assists on the night.

As a team the Lady Bulldogs had 53 kills on 105 attempts in the game.

Tonight’s game was a celebration for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this year it holds a special significance to the Bulldog athletic family.

A&M's own, Jazzmine Maclin, a former member of the women’s soccer team was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery to remove the disease last year.

Maclin served as the Honorary Coach for tonight’s game.

Next week AAMU will host Tennessee State University on Tuesday, October 30th at 7 p.m. on “The Hill”.
