Men's Basketball Falls To Jacksonville State 79-61

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Jacksonville State used a second half surge to defeat Alabama A&M Thursday night 79-61.

The Gamecocks trailed early, and didn't take their first lead until the 8:48 mark in the first half. Jacksonville State maintained that lead the rest of the way, amid a 14-2 run that put the Gamecocks up 30-20 in the nonconference game.

Alabama A&M (1-2) shot 36.8 percent (25 of 68) from the field compared to Jacksonville State's 50.9 percent (29 of 57), and the Gamecocks finished with a 44-33 rebounding advantage.

The Bulldogs' Demarquelle Tabb tied a season high with 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for his second double-double in three games and 11th of his career.

Although AAMU cleary had a taller roster of players, they were never able to get more than two players going in the offensive column. The Bulldogs got a game-high 18 points and 14 rebounds from Demarquelle Tabb, while Jeremy Crutcher added 14.

AAMU took advantage of a slow start by JSU and scored the game's first five points. They would lead by five as late as the 13:25 mark of the first half, only to watch the Gamecocks make a run. They would grab the momentum and finish the half on a spurt that gave them a 38-31 lead at the intermission.

JSU stretched the lead to double figures in the first six minutes of the half before a 13-0 run gave the Gamecocks a 64-41 lead and put the game in hand with 8:09 remaining. They would lead by as many as 25 before the Bulldogs put in nine of the game's final 11 points.

A&M, has now lost its last two regular season games and will return home on Tuesday, November 20, for a match-up with cross town rival Oakwood College. The game will tip at 7:30 p.m. CT and can be followed via live stats.
