Lady Bulldogs fall to Jackson State in Championship Match

Jackson, MS- The Alabama A&M women's volleyball team fell to the Lady Tigers of Jackson State University, 3-1 in the 2012 SWAC Tournament Championship match.

This is the third loss of the year to rival Jackson State, and the second straight in the SWAC Championship match. The Maroon & White ends the 2012 season with an overall record of 12-20.

Two Lady Bulldogs finished with double digit kills, freshman Savannah Blackiston (10 kills, 11 points) and senior Clairissa Moore (18 kills and 20.5 points). Moore also tallied a team high 14 digs. Adding to the A&M attack was junior, Leslie Ekpe who finished with nine and a half points and five block assists, while freshman Kyanna Sales totaled nine and a half points.

Defensively, senior Mary Carmen Aponte recorded 13 digs, second behind Moore. Third on the team in digs was junior setter, Ashley Forman with six. Forman also tallied 41 assists in the losing effort.

Two members of the Maroon & White were named to the All-Tournament team following the loss, junior Ashley Forman, and senior Clairissa Moore. Forman and Moore received previous honors this year being named to the Pre-Season All-SWAC team, and the All-Conference team at the close of regular season play.
