Home Court Advantage helps A&M earn first victory

Box Score NORMAL - A win at home was what the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M needed when they defeated cross-town rival the University of Alabama at Huntsville in three sets 25-16, 25-22, and 25-14.

A&M snapped an 11 game losing streak on Monday evening, in the T.M. Elmore gymnasium. Senior Mariah Brown led the Maroon and White with 12 kills, alongside teammate Clairissa Moore who smacked down 11 kills.

Head coach Nedra Brown was pleased with tonight’s game. “My girl’s came out upbeat due to the great support of the fans here on campus.”

On the night, A&M had a total of 44 kills on 88 attacks, while committing 13 errors. They also outscored the Lady Chargers in service aces 10 to three.

Defensively, AAMU outdugged UAH 32-23, and totaled six blocks on the evening.

In the second set, UAH tied the match at 22 all, but pressure defense from the Lady Bulldogs slowed down the Lady Charger offense to secure their first win of 2012.

“I am so happy about this win,” commented Brown. “My teammates played well and was able to get me the ball in spots to make the kills."

Up next, the team will travel to Memphis, TN to participate in the University of Memphis Tournament on Friday, Sept. 13 through Sat. Sept. 14.
