Box Score

PINE BLUFF – The four games in six days start of 2013 is finally over.  Unfortunately the Alabama A&M men’s basketball team was not able to recover as quickly as possible as they fell 77-61 to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions Tuesday evening.

Even though A&M had two players to post double doubles, they were unable to stop the Golden Lions run in the first half.

Junior guard Jeremy Crutcher hit the opening three points for A&M to give them a 3-2 lead early in the game. They would hold the lead until the 14:19 mark when the Golden Lions Lazabian Jackson hit three of his 10 points to put UAPB up 13-11.  It was all Arkansas-Pine Bluff from there as they went on a 34-17 run that ended with a 47-28 halftime lead in favor of the home team.

“They went on a run at the beginning of the game we could never recover from,” head coach Willie Hayes mentioned.”  “We will take this loss and learn from it and prepare for our next opponent.”

The second half was all Pine-Bluff as they held and maintained a double digit lead with their largest at 27 at the 14:17 mark.  AAMU was able to cut the lead down to 14 with 7:06 on the clock but the damage from the first half was too great for the Maroon & White to recover from.

The Bulldogs were outscored 46-22 in points in the paint, 18-12 in points off turnovers, 12-0 in second chance points, 8-2 in fast break opportunities and 14-6 in bench points.

As a team A&M shot 19 of 47 from the field for 40 percent, six of 15 from the three point line for 40% and 17-29 from the free-throw line for 59 percent.

Pine Bluff went 30 for 72 for 42 percent and 14-18 from the charity stripe.  They were led by Terrel Kennedy with 18 points and Daniel Broughton with 10 rebounds.

Justan Banks totaled 11 points and 12 boards for his third double double this season.  Junior forward Demarquelle Tabb scored 16 points and pulled in 12 rebounds for his sixth double double of the year.  Crutcher finished the game with 15 points which was his 11th double digit scoring night during the 2012-13 season.

Alabama A&M falls to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Their next opponent will be their traditional rival the Hornets of Alabama State University on Saturday, January 12th.  Game time is set for 5 p.m.
