Volleyball drops match to South Carolina State, 3-2

Box Score
ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Savanna Blackistone collected the final two aces to force a game five, but Lady Bulldogs would eventually fall to South Carolina State three games to two, in Duke Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

"Tonight was a total team effort," said head coach Nedra Brown. "We came out with a lot of energy and we were prepared to play tonight. I'm glad we were able to get some good offense from both outside hitters, but it was just a good offensive night all around."

"A night like this should give us some confidence heading into Friday against a very good Alabama State team."

Blackistone led the way with 11 kills, the fifth occasion this season that she has gone over the 10-kill mark. Blackistone was an unstoppable force on offense but also tacked on five digs and five service aces on the evening.

Also with double digit kills was Leslie Ekpe who finished the night 10 of 24 swings for a .333 hitting percentage. Ashley Forman aided the hitters finishing with 26 assists on the night marking the third time in the last four games she has hit the 20 plus assist plateau.

The Bulldogs of South Carolina State (3-17) earned the edge from Desire Waller who netted a match high 25 kills.

The Maroon and White will return home to the friendly confines of Elmore Gymnasium for a first place match in the Eastern Division vs. Alabama State. The conference match is set to take place on Friday, October 18, at 7 p.m.
