UAB defeats AAMU, 3-0

Box Score NORMAL - NORMAL - Sophomore setter Ashley Forman had her 12th straight game with 20 plus assist, but it wasn't enough as the Alabama A&M volleyball team fell to the Blazers of Alabama-Birmingham, 3-0, on Sunday, in the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fall to 5-17 on the season, while the Blazers improve to 17-9.

Forman tallied 25 assists and seven digs for the game. Freshman Ashundria McNeal led the team with six kills while Leslie Ekpe, Savannah Blackiston, and Kyanna Sales each collected five. Junior Rebecca Cortez led the back row with 11 digs.

AAMU took more swings on the night, but was not as accurate as UAB with 14 attack errors compared to the Blazers 12. The Lady Bulldogs had trouble at the serving line, totaling nine service errors to UAB's seven, along with 13 serve receive errors.

The first set was closely contested through the first half. The Green and White broke a 13-13 tie on a kill by Bethanie Thomas and held the lead for the remainder of the game, winning 25-22. The teams were almost even in every category except the Blazers had one more kill and one less attacking error.

UAB didn't lose momentum after the second game break, taking a 4-1 lead in the third set and never looking back, eventually widening its gap 16-9. The Lady Bulldogs could not find a rhythm and fell 25-19.

Up next the Maroon and White will travel to Jackson, MS to face SWAC foe Jackson State University on Wednesday, October 30. First volley is set for 6:00 p.m.
