Alabama State Edges A&M Volleyball, 3-2

Box Score Montgomery – Alabama A&M rallied from a 2-0 deficit but fell short to the Lady Hornets volleyball team, 3-2, on Thursday evening at Lockhart Gym. With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fall to 5-19 on the season and 3-6 in SWAC play, while the Lady Hornets improve to 19-14 overall and 6-0 in league action.

Leslie Ekpe and Kyanna Sales each paced A&M with 13 kills. Sales and Ashundria McNeal led A&M's blocking effort with five and four blocks, respectively.

On defense, Sales led the back row with 15 digs, a season-high for the sophomore.

The Maroon and White had a hitting percentage of .031 clip in the first frame, with six kills on 32 attempts.

Following intermission, the Lady Bulldogs regrouped during the break between the second and third sets to come out and sweep the next two games.

AAMU jumped off to a 3-1 lead, but two straight points by Alabama State capped off by a marathon rally tied the game, 3-3. Four-straight ASU attacking errors gave A&M a 16-12 lead in game three. The Lady Bulldogs remained in control through the remainder of the match, winning 25-20. Attacking errors were prominent on the Lady Hornets side of the court as Alabama State hit .148 in the set.

In the fourth set, Alabama State took their largest lead with an 8-5 advantage. Late in the fourth, A&M went on a 4-1 run to close the gap 19-18, however ASU called a timeout to regroup but it wasn't enough as A&M held on for the 25-23 victory.

Attacking errors were a main factor for AAMU in the fifth set. The Lady Hornets had a strong blocking night with four block assists in the final game to go along with 10 blocking assists in the match the most by an A&M opponent this season.

AAMU is back in action when they welcome Albany State to Elmore Gymnasium on Monday, November, 11, at 7 p.m.
