Women’s Basketball Falls to La. Tech

Box Score Ruston, Louisiana - Whitney Frazier scored 24 points and Joaquin Jackson 18 for Louisiana Tech in an 81-51 victory over Alabama A&M on Sunday.
 
The Lady Techsters (5-7) hit 29 of 74 shots, including 5 of 15 three point attempts, for 39.5 percent on their way to their fifth consecutive victory.
 
Jasmine Sanders led A&M (2-7) with eight points while Brittany Strickland added seven. The Maroon and White came up with eight steals but were outrebounded 54-38. However, the Lady Techsters hit 35 percent of their second half field goals to keep A&M at arm's reach.
 
A&M shot 29 percent (9-31) in the first half compared to just 28 in the second.  AAMU won the bench battle scoring 18 compared to the home team's 14.
 
The Maroon and White came out with energy in the first half as A&M forward Jasmine Sanders scored the first four points of the period. An Ebony Johnson's free throw with 9:37 to play cut the deficit to one (15-14), before Tech quickly pushed it back out to 32-18 on a layup by Lulu Perry.
 
La. Tech led 39-22 at halftime and never let the Bulldogs get within single digits in the second half. A 15-5 run put the Lady Techsters up by 30 with 4:37 left their largest lead of the game.
 
After A&M dug itself a 19-point deficit 41-24 early in the second half, the Maroon and White caught fire offensively on a Taylor Sippial's three pointer,to cut the lead 49-30.  After shooting only 22 percent (6-27) from the field in the first half, A&M connected on 28 percent (17-35) of its field goals in the final stanza.

Alabama A&M was sloppy with the ball with 25 turnovers leading to 18 La. Tech points.


A&M will take a break for the holidays before heading back to the hardwood to close out 2013 in Kennesaw, Georgia.
